Enjoyment with a clear conscience
New muesli with the Fair Trade Seal
Brüggen is now adding a further Fair Trade product to its range of muesli – namely the variety “Crunchy muesli with sultanas and nuts”. This breakfast is a great way to start the day with a clear conscience
From Peruvian coffee to Indian tea to African cocoa: The foodstuffs which land on our tables every day have often travelled a long way to get here. The independent association TransFair e.V. awards the Fair Trade Seal and aims to improve the working and living conditions in the respective countries of origin. This is brought about, for example, by means of a fair minimum price and a fair trade bonus for joint projects, for instance health or educational projects. Environmental protection also plays a major role. Throughout Germany, some 2,000 products have been awarded this seal. Foodstuffs comprising several ingredients such as chocolate or muesli may only bear this seal if all of the ingredients, which are available on the market in Fair Trade quality, have actually been used in the product. Overall, at least 20 per cent of the ingredients must originate from Fair Trade. Since April, Brüggen has been fulfilling its social responsibility as a manufacturer of foodstuffs with its Fair Trade certified product “Crunchy muesli with chocolate and nuts”. It has proven very successful since social commitment and environmental awareness are aspects which are becoming increasingly important for consumers, as demonstrated by the growing demand. The new variety “Crunchy muesli with sultanas and nuts” now provides a fruity change for a fair and delicious breakfast.
The composition of the blend of grains strictly complies with the regulations of the standard for Fair Trade blended products. Furthermore, the certification of the material used for the folding carton by the international non-profit organisation Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guarantees that the packaging comes from sustainable forest management. This means that the economic, ecological and social functions of the forestries are maintained and improved. Knowing this makes “Crunchy muesli with chocolate and nuts” and “Crunchy muesli with sultanas and nuts” taste even better.
As part of the FAIR WEEK campaign by the organisation TransFair e.V., whose motto was “Form the future. Trade fairly!”, stands were set up in supermarkets where customers could try the new variety of Brüggen muesli and acquire an understanding of the principle of fair trade. The campaign entitled “Fair Trade Breakfast” is intended to show that fairly traded products do not only taste good but that everybody can contribute to creating a fairer global economy. Fair Trade strengthens the position of producers on the world market and opens up sustainable paths for eliminating poverty through stable minimum prices, an additional bonus for joint projects and long-term trade relations.
